Last Days of April

Oh April! Gone so soon... thank you for everything :)
Not much April showers this year... the blooms came later than usual, but the blooms are absolutely beautiful this year, especially on our crabapple tree.

Could it Be....

Lily of the Valley?

I know for sure that there are hostas, and orange lilies, and another mysterious lily, then the white hydrangeas, or are they hydrangeas? Then there are the purple asters.... Oh!!!!! the anticipation ! When I looked closely I had a feeling that the other ones are Lily of the Valley because of the narrower foliage. Will take pictures (for sure) when they all open up....

In full bloom (just don't smell them)! These trees are at the entrance of the plan we live in.

We have one by the driveway.

Patience 101

I learned something new today. Growing plants from seed and tackling my hedge is nature's way of helping me in patience in humility. I might not have all the garden tools and the compost bin or mulch and pots and soil I want - but in the process of making do and improvising, I get to meet more of you, and learn. I tell myself that eventually, I will find the hostas. Eventually, I will kill the weeds and the poison ivy. Eventually, I will till the soil. The tulips will bloom. And I will figure out what to do with that other bed, and someday I will have a fence, and....

Someday.

Newbie Gardener Needs Your Help

Friends, I went to the wilderness today, that is my hedge of poison ivy and other stuff. I pleasantly discovered more plants. Today I rescued some of them, perhaps you can help me name these plants?

These ones look like grass from afar. They come out about the same time as the daffodils. They are planted under a tree. I don't know if they are daffodils - I never saw any blooms.

PICTURE B

If you can spot the purple flower on the ground, it's coming from a thin grass looking plant. There's several of them, although i see only one or two blooms. Crocus?

They are in the middle of the hedge. I found another bunch without blooms. They are the same as the daffodils, correct?

What are these small pink flowers? They are at the local botanical garden.

Update: Picture A are lilies: tall orange ones. (I now remember seeing them in the summer).

Happy 100th Post!

Today I celebrate with you my 100th post. Several posts ago, I announced a 100 post give-away. I actually entered all your names in the drawing, all of you who have come to visit, since day one. And so with the help of Abbie's drawing method, I drew a winner too.

Gisela is from Germany and now lives in Canada. She has transformed her property into a beautiful garden. She also loves cats, especially her Maximus. Aside from being a gardener Gisela is an advocate for the environment. She passionately promotes the cleanup of the Canadian Shoreline and closely follows the emerald ash borer threat. Her husband and son are for sure, proud of her.

Hello, all!!! A few days ago, as I was getting my toddler ready for breakfast, I got a phone call from my DH. At his new workplace, there is a very nice woman who brought a bag perennials to work. Dear husband was a lucky recipient. I spoke to her and she said that in the bag are daffodils, blue grape hyacinths, evening primrose, crocus (if I heard her right), some ornamental grass and my dream pink coneflowers !!! Yay!!! I WILL find room for them in the garden.

And room for all my growing annuals, and poppies, lavenders, and....

What an awesome random act of kindness for an eager new gardener like me :)

Here are the latest pictures of my patio bed. It's boring and a little empty after I trimmed the ornamental grass and the mums.

And now for the not so good news, I will end this post showing you that a c-r-e-a-t-u-r-e comes to visit when I'm not looking. Grrrrr..... and this is the first time ever that I planted the bulbs. 75% of the bulbs in the bag were planted in my back bed boo hooo

I feel so helpless that I had to write Fredo the Owl at Garden of the Month. I asked for back - up!!! I am not bad to animals, so please, dear something rabbit?, don't eat my plants, please? There's so much food elsewhere...

Oh well, the gardening mistakes of a beginner!
